Rushing out the door headed to the spa for a blowout ( I need straight hair after a week of curls in Florida) , picking my boys up from school and coming home to build a snowman. Then its ‘Happy Hour’.  We are making Corona Margaritas and Martinis, Make your own pizzas, and Slow Cooker Chili served with homemade guacamole and toppings.  For dessert its Fudgie Homemade Brownies topped with Sea Salt…they are incredible. I will try and post recipes next week when I have some more time!!   I can’t wait I love Happy Hour!!  Loving the New Year and feeling so peaceful and calm. Maybe its the 90 Minute Tracy Anderson Method Dance Workouts..( that girl is kicking my butt) I get it all out of my system first thing in the morning and then I’m calm and ready to go.  Hope you are all enjoying the Winter.

PS- speaking of feeling calm. When we were returning from Florida New Years Eve…Oliver reclined his seat on the airplane and the woman behind him who was about my age 45ish went ballistic and I asked her in my kind Zen-like peaceful voice :) ..if there was a problem..”Yes” she said “As a matter of fact there is” all the while looking me up and down with dirty looks…anyway she said he was only 5ish and why did he have to recline his seat?? that it wasn’t necessary etc. etc. etc… Well I wanted to tear her head off but then that is what my children would have remembered from the end of that trip so I calmly reminded her that her seat too was reclined giving the person behind her less room.  I mentioned that Oliver’s seat was paid for just as hers was and that he had just as much right to recline it as she did…then I calmly said that I felt she should try and be a happy person and set a positive example for her children…She was speechless.  I am taking the high road as much as possible these days and I have never been happier.

Good for you Bunny! I’m not sure what my Italian temper would have done in that situation. Hopefully, stay calm? I experienced a woman like that at Trader Joe’s yesterday. She kept saying “excuse me!” really loud. We always seemed to be in her way. I think some people have a problem with kids. It’s a shame. If they would only find their inner kid they might be happier.

Have a great happy hour!! I’ve been busy purging and re-organizing our things….and trying to decide where we will move to next month. I’m excited for the change. Hopefully, we can get together in 2011!!
    xxoo,
    Mimi

That is shocking that she would have acted nasty to a little five year old. Good for you, Bunny! Poor Oliver… he has got to be the sweetest child ever, and how awful that he sat in front of someone like that. But your calm example will go far in letting them know that you don’t have to answer in unkindness to still make your point and defend the ones you love.

Have fun tonight! Wish I had some of those fudgy brownies. I’m still battling this respiratory thing and haven’t been out in three weeks. I’m starting to get cabin fever. LOL!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

What a grumpy woman! Good for you for staying calm. I was reading a blog last week by a young woman who had just lost her husband in Afghanistan. She was on her flight home after the funeral and the woman in front of her had a fit, accusing her of digging her knee into the back of her seat. The poor girl lost it and told her that her husband had died for our country so we could have the privilege of taking vacations. The woman had the nerve to tell her that had nothing to do with anything. So sad.

I love happy hour too although I’m laying low for now, trying to lose some weight:)

  5. Bunny says:

I know people are so rude …he was watching a movie on our laptop with ear plugs and he didn’t make a peep the entire flight!!

Hi Bunny… I too am trying to stay calm, regardless, but I probably would have wanted to smack that woman! I know the old saying about “kill them with kindness” but sometimes that is hard, especially when a child is involved… I am still working on my calmness!… I am betting she was probably a petty, jealous type too, jealous of your beauty and graciousness… love to you… enjoy your happy hour, and drink one for me!… xoxo Julie Marie

    THREE CHEERS FOR YOU BUNNY..AND
SOMEDAY SHE WILL MEET HER MAKER, AND I HOPE I’M AT THE GOLDEN GATE, AND I WON’T LET HER IN. :)
YOU DID THE RIGHT THING, SHE WAS PROBABLY FUMMING ALL THE WAY HOME. HAPPY…HAPPY HOUR, HAVE ONE FOR ME. RIZZI

Hi Bunny….Well done for staying so calm in that situation :) My God! some people are so self-centered. They don’t even realise that they are doing the same thing. Reclining seats can be annoying at times but everyone reclines their seats, so it’s no problem really. Politeness is definitely more powerful than stooping to her level. I’m sure you made her feel like the selfish, stupid person that she is :)
    Sam’s photo is beautiful.
You deserve a Happy Hour and a blow-dry.:)

  11. People have reached the point where rude is the norm and I can’t for the life of me figure out why. If anything, I think we should be kinder these days.

Kudos to you for setting a great example for Oliver!

Peace, Love and Happiness right back at you. Hugs

  12. I’m so happy to have such a positive group of friends that visit me over here on my blog!! It is so nice to know that there are still so many kind wonderful people in this world…and I am blessed to know all of you!!

  13. Barbara says:

I confess: I hate it when someone reclines the seat in front of me. Of course, I am polite enough not to say anything because they purchased the seat and have every right to lower it. And that woman was rude, no question, especially considering her seat was lowered as well. Your calm attitude set a good example for Oliver.

But, I rarely lower my seat more than just teeny bit, always try to get those first row seats so I don’t have to deal with it, or go business class.

  14. Gloria says:

Hi, Bunny! Wish I were there for your Happy Hour and little party afterwards! And that woman on the plane: don’t you just love it when a grown person tries to pick on a little kid? God, that kills me. Especially that SHE had her own chair reclined! How dare she?! Good for you for handling it well.
    Best,
Gloria P.S. Kudos to Sam on his photo!

  15. Schnappy says:

Oh, this photo so wonderful, I love cactus! Beautiful! :)

  16. Bunny, You have shown much restraint! What a wonderful example for Oliver!
I made one New Year’s resolution this year… To be nice to everyone, even if they do not deserve it. Being nice doesn’t cost anything and it is truely priceless! Your peaceful calm is an attitude that would be most useful to me right now!
    Wonderful blog.
