Lets Make A Cheshire Cheese Hedgehog {and the ‘Boozy Concord grape Winner’}

Several years ago I took my Mother and my two oldest sons to visit Colonial Williamsburg for some history, sight seeing, amusement park fun and of course dining.  In addition to taking in all the flowers, gardens, and furnishings I always bring back as many cookbooks as possible from every place I travel to.  In one of the books From a Colonial Garden I found this recipe and have been making it for the past 7 years.  I love cheese so I was all over this recipe,  I also love to create and craft and have so much fun putting this little fella together for parties year round.  I typically make him in the Spring, Fall and Summer ( I have an adorable Snowman Cheese Ball I make during the Holidays).  Now sometimes he comes out flawless and others he looks in need of a little nip tuck!  Never the less this is always a show stopper and so yummy.

Everyone enjoys him, but I will say you have to encourage your guests to take the first bite as no one seems to want to cut into this sweet adorable little creature.  Just let them know its ok, you will make more…..

Recipe:

12 ounces cream cheese,   4 cups Cheshire cheese, grated,  1/3 cup port,  1 teaspoon curry powder,  1/2 teaspoon dry mustard, 1/2 teaspoon salt,  1/4 teaspoon cayenne,  currents,  nutmeg,  2 cups slivered almonds, toasted

Place the cheeses, port, curry powder, dry mustard, salt, and cayenne in a food processor and combine well.  Chill for several hours.  Form a mound for the body with three-fourths of the mixture.  Model the face and ears from the remaining mixture and join to the body.  Use currants for the eyes.  Color the face and ears with a shake of nutmeg.  Insert slivered almonds for the spines.  Chill.

‘Boozy Concord Grape Recipe Winner”

Candice is the winner of our contest!  She came up with several wonderful ideas for using the Boozy Grapes:  * Reduce them down into a thick syrup and pair with rosemary and top a roated pork. YUM. * Fill Brie en croute with the grapes. * Top cheesecake with reduced syrupy mixture, *fill cupcakes for an adult treat.  I love all of her ideas and plan to give them all a try.  I will also be adding them to my grape sorbet champagne punch this Thanksgiving and topping vanilla ice cream with them as well as using them in crepes. Congrats Candice you are Fabulous!! We will get your MOR products out to you soon.  And thanks to everyone for the great recipe ideas!

  3. Hi Michele, yikes, I was in the middle of leaving a comment a moment ago and Explorer just closed your web page on me. Here I am, back again to let you know how adorable I think that little hedgehog is – you did a fantastic job with that recipe. This past spring I picked up the latest version of one of the Williamsburg cookbooks because it finally had the recipe for their Rummer – a fantastic drink you can get at any of the taverns in the historic area. The winner of the Boozy Grape contest definitely deserved it – the idea to cook the grapes down and add rosemary to pair with pork was just delicious. Congratulations! Ciao, bella!

    I love the idea of crafting a cheese ball. He is so cute. My family would love that, and guests too. Can’t wait to see the snowman too. You have got me thinking. Well, I guess once I did a pine cone for a cheese ball, but nothing this cute.
