A fantastic Day in the CityDSCN3881

As I mentioned last week, I was invited in to help review Kate Spade products and website ideas at the design studio in Manhattan. ( I am not able to share any photos etc. as it is not made public yet, I had to sign a release before leaving and since I would not last a day in prison, I plan to do what I am told) But I can share the fabulous wallet they gave me to thank me for my time. I decided to bring along Oliver and make a day of it.  He loves the city so we started off at Sweetiepie’s restaurant in the village, one of our favorites.  It is so gorgeous and fun inside and they serve champagne cocktails!  I do love my champagne, I’m so giddy now at the mere thought of champagne that I am spinning around and around in my office chair weeeeeeeee….( I’m in a very silly mood today)  There is also a gold birdcage you can eat inside of or dance in, whatever floats your boat.  Actually it is not for dancing, I just happen to love to throw parties and dance the night away whether it is in a makeshift birdcage at the Paris House or on a platform…We throw parties and dance until the middle of the night, usually there is insane amounts of tequila involved in this fun! a weeks ago I did this for hours and hours in a string bikini no less…have I forgotten how old I am??  Not a chance, I love to have fun! Blame it on the tequila, I always do! It is a bit eccentric at The Paris House but never ever boring.

~The fun wallet was a gift from Kate Spade for my time….please, it was a blast I should have brought you guys a gift!!  I matched my nail polish to the fabulous Kate Spade box, I collect them and stack them in my office.

The Cocktail ring belonged to my Grandmother Margaret. She was divine!

Enjoying lunch at Sweetiepies.  I think this restaurant has been featured in all the top fashion magazines.  The owner is impossibly cool as are many of the people who dine there.  Especially Oliver. You can read more about it on Gwyneth Paltrow’s blog ‘Goop”.

The leather banquettes are in my favorite hue, hot pink and the tables are all chic white marble.DSCN3856

Next, Oliver and I walked holding hands up the street ( He in his sensible shoes, me in 5 inch stilettos, well I had a meeting to go to and I needed to look good, I’ll deal with the pain later) to one of the most famous bakeries in the World, at least as far as cupcakes go.  Magnolia sky rocketed to fame often with tourists that line up out the door, after Sex and the City helped put it on the map.

Although I do love going there, it is not my personal favorite.  I love Bruce’s CupCakery over near the Queensbourough Bridge.  We go there after eating at Rosa Mexicana.  I love their cupcakes.

Look how pretty and they are delicious, probably my 3rd favorite after Bruce’s and Crumbs.  Oh its all good!!!

Love the artsy chic walls in the restroom at Sweetiepies

Heading home after a long fun day in the big Apple.  Oliver is very theatrical, Dr. Seuss hat and all.  He wants to be a singer and have his own TV show!  Go Oliver!DSCN4069

Home Sweet Home

Mr. Bunny and I will come out here at night to enjoy a glass of wine when all the ‘twinkle lights’ are on and it is romantic and peaceful.DSCN3987

Does anyone know where these chairs were made famous????  Casablanaca, in front of Rick’s Cafe!  I have loved them since I was a little girl.  I believe they were originally designed by Carre the French Architect????DSCN4012

I can’t leave you without something yummy to eat.  I have posted on this before.  Everyone goes crazy when I make these and they get devoured up.

Strawberry brie butter toasts:

Simply grill a french baguette in salted butter. then top with brie cheese, sliced strawberries and a sprinkling of raw sugar.  Broil until cheese is bubbly and warm.  Of course I’m going to suggest you to serve it with a wine or bubbly of your choice.

This takes about 5 minutes to make!DSCN3928

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend. I’ll be spending mine relaxing under my pergola with my family and friends.  See you in about a week or two! My boys are finished with school, and they are all mine for the next 3 glorious months..YAY!!

  1. Oh wow, what a perfect day! I so wish I was with you. How totally impossibly cool that you were asked to review Kate Spade stuff!
Sweetypies is a place I’ve been wanting to go to next time I visit NY. I read that the service was super bad there though. It just looks so fun and girly. My kind of thing. Plus I can show off in the birdcage and play “supermodel” ya know??!
Oliver is such a cutie :D , and those toasts look scrumptious.
    *kisses* HH

All of the food looks delish, and your gardens are so very pretty… have fun with your boys out of school now… one day I would LOVE to visit you at the Paris House and sip champagne! … xoxo Julie Marie

I remember when my kids got out of school. I was so thrilled. We went to lunch somewhere fun and then we bought summer pool and water toys! I loved every minute of it. Just like I know you will too!
Thanks for the wonderful strawberry brie butter toast recipe. This is one I’ll make. I love eating al fresco… and I love a glass of bubbly!

What a marvelous time you had! First, with the Kate Spade products, then lunch with your favorite man! (BTW: love your grandmother’s ring!) Sweetiepies looks like so much fun. I wonder why my daughter has never taken me there? I will certainly look into that!
Love your brie toasts. Easy to make, looks pretty and delicious.
Another fun day with Bunny!! Pass the champagne, please.

You know, my dear “Bunny” — I have viewed your Kate Spade post a few times and, each time, I say to myself: “There are so many things to comment on, I will do so later.” BUT — I, again, read it today, so I am going to comment, even if I don’t ‘CATCH’ everything that I’d like to comment on! Well, first of all: OLIVER!!!!! I am so glad he had a good time at “Sweetiepies” (I haven’t heard of that place in NYC! Yes, for Serendipity, but I should check out Sweetiepies!). Oliver looks ADORABLE in the pics, AND I admire you for taking him with you on your travels (I would have done the same. I have a story of when Tain (my son) was 9 and I took him on a business expedition to Newport, RI to check out venues — I will have to email you one day to tell you the story!) But, anyway, you are a great Mom. AND I love the blue nailpolish!!! I have been obsessed with getting “Robin’s Egg Blue” things in my kitchen to match my canister set. So I actually was going to buy the polish, then didn’t. Was it an OPI shade? Well, whatever, I was jealous that you had it on your nails! Ha-ha! Anyway, I have run on and I don’t remember what else I wanted to comment on. I will just have to read your post once again! PLUS, I still have to read your previous post(s) that I think I missed! Stay tuned for more verbose comments! :) Apologies to you for being so wordy! (and apologies to any other commentators reading this!)
    Best regards,
    Gloria

  11. Okay, first I have to say that I can definitely see Oliver with his own TV show and can’t wait to see it premiere!

Then on to those cupcakes, you now have me craving sweets and since there are no bakeries here I guess I might have to bake. Well, there is always Publix, I love their goodies. Now where’d I put the keys to the car?

How in the world do you keep your outdoors so spotless? Amazes me every time you show us new pics.

    Have fun with your boys!!!!!!

  12. Kristin says:

What a perfectly beautiful sounding day! And I’m totally swooning over that pink umbrella!

  14. A sweet long overdue hello from Frog Hollow Farm. I saw this post while I was in the city at the theater so could only send a quick hello on Facebook. What a cool thing being asked to review Kate Spade’s product line – you must have been in heaven! How honored you must have felt – your style and grace will soon be known worldwide! And I have to admire the fact that you dressed in those 5″ heels AND brought sweet Oliver with you – you are truly amazing! Glad you aren’t giving away any Kate Spade secrets and that you won’t have to worry about jail time, but you know, I’m not following any jail blogs so that might have been interesting [;)]. It’s so busy here at Frog Hollow Farm between working two days a week, gardening and overseeing the landscapers who are working in front of our house. I want to be like Ina Garten, always fabulously relaxed and gracious with wonderful things to serve in my cupboards and fridge – that’s my goal but I’m falling short I feel. Ho[e I don’t sound whiny – it creeps up on me once in a while!! You must be enjoying your time with the boys all being out of school and home – those can be such wonderful, lazy days, at least for a while. Hope all is well with you, I’m sure you’re ‘cooking up’ some fabulous new ideas for decorating, cooking or marketing – you are just so much fun to follow! Ciao, bella!

  15. What a lovely day! I was also in the City last week. In the Village too. Such a quaint place. I equally saw many folks strolling around with Magnolia goodies. I had yummy stuff, but no cupcakes. I’m more an oatmeal and raisins cookie fairy!

  16. marydon says:

G’eve sweet friend ~ Oh, that lucky Oliver getting to hobnob with you in the ‘city’ … lucky little man!Having gained 15# just looking at all the goodies you two have enjoyed … think I’ll pour some pink bubbles & see if I can go wheeee in my chair! Chuckle!

What an exquisite ring, Bunny … beautiful memories to have & wear.

Sherry is not better, I am calling her shortly. She became a G’ma for the 8th time yesterday & can’t even see the baby until she gets better. I am so worried about her … wish I were closer to do ‘something’ for her.

Please give Oliver a big hug for me. I am up to my neck in genealogy right now … we are writing the manuscripts, FINALLY!

    Hugs, Marydon

  17. I get it, I get it…. I only wish I could tell the daily goings on between our hous & Tiffany’s. I can only say the world will love it!!!! I must say the “Cat in the Hat” looks to have had a great day!! Your garden room looks divine!! Don’t you love this time of year??!! We’ve already had a few 100+ days! I don’t know where they’ve come from so early. Check in with me. I’m trying so hard to get back in the groove….

  20. Sherry says:

Hi Bunny and Oliver (my Sweet)….
I love this post. Could you send me one of those cupcakes? I hate being under lockdown. I can’t go anywhere and I can’t get any of those goodies. Do they send overnight? Love it. Oliver I so adore your precious Dr. Seuss hat and I hope you took a few looks of that lollipop for Me. It looks so delicious. You are so lucky to be able to travel to the big city with Mom and have lunch at Sweetipies. I love the picture of you coloring, it reminds me of our special day when I came to visit Ms Marydon. We sure did laugh alot.

Bunny I can just see you in those stilletos hurrying along so as not to be late. I know you looked gorgeous, as you always do. Love the Kate Spade bag. I can’t wait to see photos. I bought a pair of Kate Spade flip flops while I was visiting Marydon. I love them.

Love your gardens. I feel like I went outside today even though it was virtual. I would so love to walk through and have some of that wonderful treat, Strawberry brie butter toast, as it looks so scrumptous. I bet your parties are so delightful and fun. Just like you. Thank you for sharing with me Bunny. I have had a wonderful time today. Please give Oliver a BIG hug for me. Tell him that I love him, and have not forgotten about the package I want to send him. It is late for his birthday, but I have been sick since I got home, and haven’t been able to pick it up and send it to him. Let him know though I have not forgotten. Is he still doing his magic?

Many hugs sweetie and so much love, Sherry

  21. Okay, Bunny, you’ve outdone yourself again! I love every single picture! Oliver is a cutie!!!! Your nails are gorgeous, the ring beautiful, that Kate Spade wallet just what I need, the cupcakes I crave, your garden simply heaven, and that recipe for brie with strawberries: absolutely what I will go and make right now!

  22. Sheila says:

Bunny! I missed this adorable post with two of my favorite cutie pies, you and Oliver! I’m so glad I read it because I loved every word.

You are a FABULOUS mother. Let me repeat, FABULOUS mother! Those boys are so blessed to have you, and they are going to be wonderful husbands because of all the love you have showered on them. Good job! I’m so happy you are planning fun times with them for the next few months, and I hope you have the best summer ever.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)
