Setting a Cinco de Mayo table for two at The Paris House using the loveliest linens from the very talented April Cornell. We have been ‘setting the scene’ around here for years with the help of the colorful beautiful linens found in the April Cornell line. The adorable ‘tablecloth’ you see on our bistro table is in fact an Apron!! My children all ate early before baseball practice so I thought I would set a table for me and my sweet Mr. Bunny to enjoy some Mexican Cuisine and Tortilla Soup. This little table was in my apartment over 20 years ago when we were dating and we use to have the most romantic dinners together. I like to continue that tradition whenever I have the chance. It is so important to carve out time alone together even if the kids are home we can still find time for each other. The lovely tea towel has been generously gifted to us for a giveaway from April Cornell and one of our lucky readers will win it this Sunday evening!!!
You can see the adorable detail on the tea towel.
All of the clear glasses with blue trim were found in the markets of Todos Santos way off the beaten path in Mexico on one of our many trips to that area. The gorgeous painted ‘Sangria Glasses’ were purchased in San Jose Mexico on a shopping and eating trip! The artwork in the background is Oliver’s masterpiece!
See our ‘Gazing Ball’ in the background that was purchased at the one and only Smith and Hawkins, a long time favorite of mine that sadly is no longer. There still are some of their items at Target!
This antique chair is my Great Grandmothers it is placed up against the 200 year old stone walls in our farmhouse. I have many wonderful books on Mexico in my home library that are filled with history, travel information, culture and recipes. ( the pillow was purchased in Eze France)
Do you have any plans for Cinco de Mayo? If so please let us know what you are cooking.
This table setting is perfect all summer long. All of these linens come in different sizes to fit your table and design needs.
Look how beautifully my painted glasses go with April’s linens.
Ollie let me borrow his maraca that he brought back from Mexico. I loved the Margaritas at the Tropicana in San Jose. If you are in that area stop by and try one.
Mis en place, putting everything in its place to prepare and enjoy delicious Tortilla Soup.
My old wooden antique table makes a nice little serving table in the kitchen.
Find this delicious tortilla soup recipe by Colin Cowie here. We make it at The Paris House a lot, it is so nutritious and delicious.
Please leave a comment to win this lovely April Cornell Tea Towel. I just adore the sweet crochet detail on her skirt. I love to use tea towels as over sized napkins at each place setting. I can’t stop smiling when I look at this happy lady who is just perfect for your fiesta tablescape.
We are going to draw the lucky winner Sunday evening at 10pm eastern time and hopefully get it to you by Cinco de Mayo!! It is perfect to use year round especially served with some fabulous margaritas poolside this summer.

I will also be doing the drawing for the Toile Cake Pedestal Giveaway Thursday evening at 12 Eastern time and will announce the lucky winner. We are still taking a few orders for our toile pieces from the Country Living Magazine Feature.
We will post when we have time as we are planning an adorable Fairy Tale birthday party based on Hans Christian Anderson’s “Thumbelina” and we are busy as can be getting ready for the event.
Not to mention that due to a yoga and running sports injury I can barely walk. I pulled something and decided to run 6 miles through the pain…not a good idea. Now I am hobbling around town, but at least I am doing it in 5 inch heels! I am ridiculously busy..please let me vent for a few minutes, can you all be my therapist LOL! I have been so busy that I have lost too much weight, can’t sleep, my jeans were hanging off me today, this is not good…we all need to slow down a bit and listen to our bodies before it is too late. I am going to bed early tonight, stopping to eat healthy meals, cutting back on the strenuous workouts and yoga until my injury heals. I don’t really know how to ‘chill’ I love being busy but I also love being healthy so I am going to take control of my crazy schedule. I will be slowing down a lot this summer to travel and be with family and friends. My friend ‘D’ has offered his Sauna to me so I can relax and get better faster, but I can’t fit it in my schedule LOL… Instead of relaxing in his sauna I spent the day looking for live frogs all over New Jersey for the fairytale theme party I am planning, I mean whats a party without live frogs??? Tell me this…How do you relax? Are you a type A like me? Any tips are welcome here at The Paris House. On a very happy note I did a book reading for my children’s book “The Frog and The Tadpole’s Great Swamp Adventure” at Oliver’s school on Monday for his 5th birthday, it was one of the happiest days of my life, truly magical, I will never ever forget it. I love love love love love being a mommy!
See you soon
