Sunday Supper at The Paris House

I love the way natural light floods into my Garden Room in the afternoon.  The light makes the crystal sparkle and the antique wood table glow. Our Lemon Trees are doing very well.

We use a lot of antique, vintage and re-purposed woods and furnishings in our home and design work.

Winter 20104-1

Winter 20105

I just added several new cookbooks to my home library.  I am really enjoying The Lee Bros. “Simple Fresh Southern”, Knockout Dishes with Down- Home Flavors. The recipes are not difficult and are packed with flavor.  A little something you may not know about me is that I am obsessed with the South.  I LOVE Southern cooking, Love Love Love the accents and wish I had a Southern accent, subscribe to all Southern style magazines, when it comes to hair, I’m not about the ‘Jersey Girl’ style, no way, I love the sexy bombshell hair styles of Some Texas Gals and Southern Belles. Each week when I get my blowouts I tell my hair stylist to ‘ Give me big gorgeous Texas Girl Bombshell Hair!!’ and she does :)

menu:

Pimento- Cheese Potato Gratin

Pork Tenderloins With Madeira and Fig Gravy

Ginger Lemonade

I am also enjoying Martha Stewart’s” Dinner at Home”, The recipes are very well organized according to season, the photography is clean and modern and so far the recipes are super easy and delicious.

MENU:

Goat Cheese Stuffed Dates

Chocolate Molten Espresso Cakes

I made all the above for our Sunday get together and it wasn’t too difficult and I am still not feeling great from my Dentist Escapades.   The most time consuming of the above recipe was the Gratin but even it was easy and delicious.

I have since made the Ginger Lemonade two ways, one according to the recipe and another where I made and chilled three cups of green tea in place of just plain water.  I love the combination of green tea, ginger , honey and lemons. MAJOR super food.

I will also use this recipe without the green tea and add vodka or tequila at a cocktail party that I ‘ll be hosting soon.

Recipe:

2 ounces fresh ginger, peeled cut into thin disks about 1/3 cup

1/4 honey or more to taste

1/8 teaspoon kosher salt

3/4 cup fresh lemon juice ( from about 4 large lemons )

1. Put the ginger in a medium heatproof bowl.  Bring 2 cups cold water to a boil, then pour it into the bowl and stir to agitate the ginger.  Slowly pour in the honey, stirring until dissolved in the concentrate.  Add the salt, cover and let steep for 10 minutes.

2.  Strain the concentrate into a large pitcher ( it will keep 5 days ,covered, in the refrigerator), you can reserve the ginger slices to use as a garnish if you like.  Add 3 cups of cold water ( can also substitute 3 cups of cold green tea/water ) and the lemon juice to the pitcher, and sweeten to taste with honey.  Set the pitcher in the refregerator to cool further: store the ginger slices in the refrigerator as well.  ( The lemonade and ginger slices will keep in the refrigerator for 5 days.)

3. Fill each highball or pint glass two-thirds of the way to the rim with ice, and pour the ginger lemonade over it.  Garnish with a slice of the steeped lemon if you wish.  I like to use a candied ginger slice!! and I think old fashioned Ball Jars would be so lovely filled with this lemony beverage during the summer months!

~ this is rather tart, which I and my sons prefer, however I did put out a little glass dish of Super Fine Sugar for those who wished to sweeten their beverage up a bit more. ~

**Please stop over at Shellbelle’s Tiki Hut for an amazing Giveaway.  You don’t want to miss this!!

Final Note: Thank You all for your kind words regarding my Dentist and Doctor’s issues and fears, even though it has been 16 years since my Cancer I am still terrified and traumatized of any and all Doctor visits.  Thankfully I have a group of Wonderful and Caring physicians these days and that over all my health seems pretty darn good .  you can’t see me but I am knocking on wood like a crazy :)  I had to discontinue the antibiotic because it was making me very nauseous, I have a very difficult time on antibiotics and have ended up in the hospital a couple times on IV because of them…see why I’m such a giant baby!!!   but hopefully I will get through the next week or so of Dentist and possible root canal appointments without too much drama or any further need for antibiotics…fingers crossed!!

Now I am going to get my mind onto happier things, like playing Candy Land Deluxe and eating lots of Chocolate with Oliver

  8. Well now shugah, you may not be a true Southerner, but you do know and avoid the three deadly sins of every belle:

    1. Bad hair and nails
    2. Bad manners
    3. Cookin’ bad food

And honey you avoid these so well, I’m going to dub you an Honorary Southern Belle!

Bless your heart for helping the people in Haiti.

  9. Hello Bunny… I soooo love your earth rings… maybe one day I shall own one (sigh)… how generous of your to help the poor souls in Haiti, my heart aches so for them… I am happy you got through your dentist appt with not too much trouble, sorry the anti~biotics made you sick, I can’t take them either… your recipes sound delish! I too LOVE the South, much of my family was originally from Louisiana and I can’t get enough of the food, the clothes, the lifestyle… I also LOVE big hair, I guess that is why I keep mine long, so I can pouff it all out! (I think I must have really been born in the South!) Southern Lady is one of my all time favorite magazines, and my favorite thing to watch on tv (of which I watch very little) is the old Heat of the Nights… have fun playing Candyland and eating chocolate with Oliver… hello Oliver my buddy! xoxo Julie Marie

  10. Frog Hollow Farm Girl says:

Hi Michele, glad to hear that you are feeling better. I didn’t realize that you had cancer 16 years ago; understandably, that would make anyone fearful of any illness. Thanks to you I am now drinking green tea every day – I bought the 365 Organic Green Tea with Pomegranate and Cranberry. I put a little organic honey and fresh lemon in it, keep it in the fridge and drink it cold – can’t seem to get into the hot green tea thing. Take care.

  11. thanks!! FHFG…I am very happy you are drinking that it sounds delicious and nutritious

  12. Bonjour Bunny,
How sweet you are to offer this for the people of Haiti. Your ring is gorgeous, you did brilliant job on the design. Oliver has the sweetest blog, I can’t believe he does it all himself. As soon as it comes up in my post, I’m off to see and it makes my day!
Hope you’re coming along after the dentist trauma. I took your wise advice and went to the dentist today – eek! – and had it all taken care of. Definitely not fun but now its over, hope you are finished with it too!
Take care and have a great week!

  13. Sorry to double post Bunny. I just did a post about Sharon over at My Passport to Syle blog, she is having a fundraiser for Haiti. I just added your idea as well and posted a photo of your ring with a link – is that okay with you?
Oh, now I’m thinking I should take it down and wait for your answer. Pardon-moi, I should have asked FIRST! I’m usually extremely careful about this kind of thing. If you prefer I can remove the photo, just let me know. I thought the more people that know the better.
    Merci!

  14. dustjacket attic says:

Oh the rings are just gorgeous, my fave is the soft purple.

Oooo can you just cook for me….please :) I love your food.
    xxxx

  15. What a lovely dinner ambiance! I didn’t know that you had had cancer. From that point of view I totally understand your apprehension of doc’s visits. But luckily, as well, you seem to be some an energetic lady and you are looking brightly into the future. Just like your beautiful Garden Room.

  16. miss neira says:

They are so stunning! I love the purple one

  17. Bunny, every time I come here, my breath is suspended. Such beauty! And I’m thinking of the faux Earth Mother Ring as a perfect giveaway for Mother’s Day. Wouldn’t that be something? I gotta visit your shop and get one before you’re all out.

  18. drollgirl says:

  19. Kristin says:

  20. Thank you so much for getting it all out so quick. I can’t wait to get it all!!! Again, I am so sorry to have ordered peice by peice. I kept thinking I didn’t need it all, but I couldn’t get the glasses off my mind! I’ll let you know when I get them. We’re supposed to have icy weather at the end of the week. Yuck…. hopefully it won’t slow our mail delivery down.
    Have a great week!
    Thanks again!
