Get Beautiful on the Inside

Happy Happy 2010….THIS is my new ‘VICE’…taking pictures from my ‘Mac’s’ Photo Booth and sending them out to people.  Some are meant only for my husband’s EYEs, if you know what I mean and others are of my kids, pets, me making silly faces, or checking out the lines around my eyes wondering if Botox is in my future LOL…I’m way too afraid of botulism in my body.   Photo booth is fun but it takes THE most unflattering pictures I have even seen.  Even my  poor little pug LULU is even more wrinkled on photo Booth than she is in person!!

I don’t know about you but I ate a lot of delicious food and drank one too many cocktails over the Holidays.  I had more fun and loved every minute of it.  I worked out everyday, even Christmas but I ate every darn thing I wanted to.  I didn’t gain weight.  Its because I exercised and was so busy running around all day, but I still need to get back on the wagon and eat healthy and cut way back on the cookies :)

{ Green tea with Ginger is my favorite drink, I drink 2-6 cups of green tea a day and 1 cup of coffee and lots of water and Pom juice spritzers….and of course I like to do this while wearing Chanel 5 red lipstick}

Listen up before we get started here I need to say I’m going to talk about what we should all be eating and doing to look and feel great, what we can do to fit into our ’sexy’ jeans, and what we can do to try and live beautifully for a long long time to come…BUT I am a designer NOT a DR.  so before you listen to me or anyone else out there, see your Dr. (Especially if you are not involved in an exercise program currently ).

This is what I do to stay fit and healthy, it works for me.  We all need to find our own program and stick to it.

My Breakfast typically consists of the above items

tea

iced coffee black, occasionally a splash of 1% milk

Greek yogurt

OR

Oatmeal with fresh fruit

I never skip breakfast and treat myself to a huge breakfast on Sundays….Bacon, homemade Pancakes, eggs..YUMMY, I can’t wait for Sunday!

{ This is Lulu, picture taken with a Nikon , NOT photo booth.. Lulu is one of our many pets, we even have a pit bull, and he is insane. Seriously he is crazy…he foams at the mouth when people are around.  He won’t let anyone near us, everyone is afraid of him but with us his is such a teddy bear!! I don’t know if you remember the post I did months ago on my incredibly hot handyman that looks like Madonna’s boyfriend…well anyway he chased that poor guy across the street and my husband had to go pick him up at the police station because he couldn’t make it back to our house to get his car.  It was a so funny…I know I know it may not seem funny but If you could have heard my husband’s voice on the phone as he was racing to pick up our handyman across from the church it was a riot.  Another way to live healthy is to surround yourself with Bliss, A wonderful family, great friends, loving pets, Faith and passion…things that fulfill you bring joy}

{these are delicious cupcakes that we serve during our Paris Workshops }

Don’t worry I’m NOT going to tell you not to eat cupcakes, no way, I eat dessert everyday and always have a glass of wine with dinner.  I work hard and the rewards are energy and fitting into my clothes, and on my good days, even my high school jeans I wore when I was 17, not bad for a 44 year old mom of 3!! I’m not saying this to be annoying but to be inspiring…. If I can do this anyone can….but it takes a lifestyle change and a positive attitude…YOU have to want it and make no excuses!!  It is never dieting but always living a healthy lifestyle, that means having 5 days a week of very healthy eating and being careful and then ‘falling’ off the wagon a bit on the weekends and eating what I want.  I do the following forms of exercise 7 days a week and burn apprx. 1,000 calories during some of the more challenging cardio workouts I do.  I have a very simple un-fancy  gym at home and that works for me…I HATE going to the gym, occasionally after I had kids I hired a trainer to come to my house to put me on a program that helped speed up my metabolism.  I nursed all of my children for 18 months so I really couldn’t worry too much about calories so fitness was the key to my weight loss success.  I love the StairMaster, treadmill, elliptical machine, step aerobics, light weights, plyometrics, yoga, Pilate’s, wii fit/active, running and occasionally swimming, skiing, hiking, and snowboarding.  I work out so hard I have to peel my clothes off because they are plastered to me with sweat.  I never get winded, hardly ever get sick and hardly ever get tired.  When I do, it is usually my diet that is to blame…too much SUGAR!!  For me the rewards of living like this make the one hour a day so worth it.  Another benefit I don’t ever feel depressed, now that doesn’t mean that sad things don’t happen in my life , I have challenges and issues like everyone else out there and I do stress and have border line panic attacks when I go to the dr’s ( I hate going to the dr’s) but none of these things are life altering.  Exercise makes your skin glow, your butt smaller, your attitude happier and more positive and your love life FANTASTIC :) …sorry tmi….but YAY for all those endorphins!!

{This is the dashboard on my Mac and I have an App on it that gives me a new juice recipe everyday, they are so healthy and delicious…just watch the calories}

I started taking dance class when I was three so fitness has always been a part of my life, ..I really do feel like the Energizer Bunny.  I have had health issues and still deal with chronic Lyme disease ( I was on antibiotics for over 2 years straight and intravenous IV twice for 2 months at a time.  This is a common problem where I live and as an avid Gardner, it can often be very hard to avoid).  If it were not for exercise I and my Dr. both believe my chronic Lyme would be trying very hard to kick my butt….BUT Lyme can’t function at all in your lungs and it doesn’t like ‘hanging out’ in a highly oxygenated body, so my workouts keep my Lyme quiet and my blood tests show no evidence of it and my thyroid tests are coming back perfect as well.  Exercise and healthy eating are why I feel this way.  I am not a vegan who lives on wheat grass, tofu and crazy crap all day, I eat everything just in moderation and I drink in moderation and try to never be around cigarette smoke.

{Last night we had delicious Salmon cakes loaded with fresh ginger, scallions, peppers and flavor}

SUPER FOODS:

Pomegranate juice

fruits and veggies

Berries

ginger

oatmeal

garlic, onions, shallots

whole grains, beans, lentils

red wine

tea

coffee ( a great antioxidant)

omega 3 fish oil

salmon

vitamin D

cranberries

nuts

Dark Chocolate

Olive Oil

and there are many more

***PS I NEVER EVER drink any diet sodas and never have****

I have recently added 1 teaspoon of Organic Cider Vinegar mixed with 1 Tablespoon of Honey to my diet, I just down it each morning…A family member recently told me about Cider Vinegar and how great it is for you, He looks great and is very active and healthy so I decided to give it a try!!

I really believe that we can change our lives…just listen to your body, it will tell you what it needs to be happy!!  Sometimes it needs Cupcakes and Pizza!!

God Bless and be Healthy

I told you I love my new Photo Booth, when oh when will I grow-up??  Certainly not in 2010, I’m having way too much fun!!

  2. Mimi says:

    Hmmm, I think my husband would encourage me to get a Mac just for the photo booth (wink) :)
    I totally agree with what you said….though I confess that I’m terrible at keeping up with my exercise routine. My husband goes to the gym…me not so much. You are encouraging me to get my butt in gear!! I also drink 1(or 2) cups of coffee and then tea all day.
    Great advice Bunny!

    Hey…if I move….should I be worried about Lyme disease (deer ticks?) ????
    {hugs}

  3. Bonjour Bunny,
    SUch a great post – you’ve inspired me to get going with a healthier regime. I’ve always loved oatmeal but it’s hard to find here in Paris, but the dark chocolat you recommended they definitely have! It sounds like you have a sensible and natural way of staying fit and healthy – I try to do that because I hate going to the DR too.
    Oh and you do NOT need Botox! Here’s to living life beautifully!

  4. Hello Bunny… this is a wonderful post… I think you said the key words in there “everything in moderation”… I never say “diet”… healthy eating is very important to me too… my exercise is my Nature walk of three miles every day… I have Fibromyalgia and walking seems to keep that as under control as I can get it, plus I love to walk! I have never smoked a cigarette in my life and never will! I too avoid artificial sweeteners… but I must admit, I LOVE my chocolate!!! xoxo Julie Marie PS Lulu is adorable!!!

  5. Melissa says:

    Great post Bunny! It is so important to take care of ourselves all while still enjoying life (and a bit of indulging)!

    Lulu is SO cute!

  6. Bunny, I think you would be beautiful no matter how well you care for yourself. You are bubbly and sparkly and have great genes.
    That pit bull story is the funniest! But also scary for me, cause pit bulls terrify me more than any other dog. Lulu, however, is super adorable!!!

  7. I like to play with the photo booth app too daaaahling. Then I black and white myself so I look super cool :D .
    I totally hear you about the exercise. I’ve made it part of my life. I go to the gym so much, I should look like Zena, warrior princess. Alas, I do not. Good for you for going 7 days a week! I go 5 days a week. I just couldnt hack it every day ;)
    I have my vices. I do drink way too much diet coke, and like you, I love sugar. Still, its about balance. I cant be without my cakes daaaaahling. I am sure you understand.
    Here’s to good living in 2010
    *kisses* HH
    p.s. one teaspoon of honey a day is so good for you. its super anti bacterial, its supposed to improve performance at the gym (in clinical trials), and there are claims that it does good stuff for wrinkles (i dont know if that one is actually true though). It really is a super food.

  8. Bunny, you are soooo adorable!! I LOVE this post!! I try to live the same way! I only eat healthy foods but I dont deprive myself which I think is key. I love my coffee and could never get rid of it! I do need to exercise a little more though. I used to be really good about it but since having my fifth son, I havent been as good :(
    Thanks for all the great tip!
    Hugs,
    Amy

  9. Patricia says:

    Your energy and inspiration is amazing. I’ve got the healthy eating down, the exercise needs some work. I also believe in moderation. If you deny yourself all the time you’ll just “fall off the wagon”. I too enjoy my glass of wine with dinner pretty much each night. Thankfully red is usually my wine of choice.

    Lulu is adorable. I’m partial to pugs, have one myself named Louis. He’s such a love.

  10. Talia says:

    Oh, I love the advice you gave. It is so true. I work out daily, watch my fat/calories (but do NOT obsess about it!), and find the good in most every situation (except my stepchildren, who hate me).

    Could you please share the vinegar/honey thing you do? I would really appreciate it! — Thank you in advance.

    Take care and love, love, love your blog! Happy New Year!

  11. Great advice all around! I was just like you until I was injured at 49, spent some time home-bound and then in a electric scooter for two years. Another few years of adjusting to being on my feet again. Boy, the weight piled on over those years, but I lost 25-pounds in 2009 and I’m shooting for another 35 in 2010. I do this very sensibly and don’t deny myself those cupcakes when I want them. Exercise is still tricky, but walking is a good thing and I’m hoping to get a bike this year. From power aerobics and step (which I loved) to a complete standstill was the hardest part for me, but I’m adjusting. Not being able to ever wear high heels was a heart-breaker for me, but my tennis shoes and flats collection is much better than what I had to wear during my recovery. Life is good Bunny dear, and only getting better!

    One suggestion to you — get rid of those Quaker Oats and switch to Bob’s Red Mill 5-Grain Rolled Hot Cereal. Similar to regular oatmeal, only it taste fabulous and isn’t mushy. Much better for you and your tastebuds!

    xoxoxoxo

  12. Talia, I hope you see this I don’t know your blog address?? But…The recipe is simply 1 to 2 teaspoons of Organic Cider Vinegar mixed with 1 Tablespoon of Honey and then I just drink it very quickly!!! I have no idea what it does but I think it is good for your digestion and of course honey is so good for you!

  13. Barbara says:

    You’re gorgeous Bunny, inside and out. Don’t ever sweat the wrinkles, they show character and the ability to age gracefully. Really important!
    I’m into losing weight, healthy diet and exercise. The exercise part isn’t new, been doing it for years and I go 6 days a week. But I really slacked off during the holidays.
    Love this post!

  14. Frog Hollow Farm Girl says:

    Hi Bunny, your post was so refreshing and validating to read. I’m 55 and just retired on January 1st. My husband and I escaped down to the Borgota in AC for two nights, so between those two days (I love Bobby Flay’s restaurant and Fornarello too) and the holidays I need to get back to a healthy lifestyle. I just read seven words, maybe in the most recent Oprah magazine, about eating – they are: “Eat food(meaning whole foods, not processed) – Not too much – mostly plants.” I thought they were helpful as a guideline as I move forward with my attention to foods and my daily habits. As far as living a beautiful life, I am almost hyperventilating with all of the things I want to do! Keep me motivated with your great posts and photos!

  15. Thank you Frog Hollow Farm Girl, I’ll do my best!!

  16. Kristin says:

    Will you be my health mentor?? Because you look amazing! I’m curious to see how you like the cider. I’ve heard about this as a weight loss tool before.

  17. Tami B says:

    Perfect music while I was reading this..The end photo and caption was awesome…did not expect it! Thanks for the tips Michele…

  18. Dear Bunny,

    Thanks for sharing so genuinely about what you eat and do to stay as glowing as you are. You really seem energetic, and you are beautiful inside out!

    I like many of the tips you share – like having a glass of red wine or dark chocolate, or never skipping breakfast. I also eat regularly and treat myself to goodies, but not too many. Overdosing sugar only makes one feel bad, just like you pointed out.

    Have fun getting back “into real life”… January is fun in the sense that after all the partying we now can head to new, more down-to-earth challenges:)

  19. Sher says:

    Bunny, I want a photo booth too! LOL! I’ve heard about drinking Cider vinegar from father in law. He took a quarter cup and added honey and drank it. Chugged it down every day. I would prefer your measurements than a quarter cup like he does.

    For VT skiing. Oldest son will in VT at Mount Snow this weekend. But I’m home working :( January is a bad month to get away for me. You have fun and stay warm! Sis was in VT (Killington) week after Christmas and she didn’t ski on the days it was zero degrees.

  20. Hello my darling Bunny I do hope you had a wonderful time ringing in the New Year and that 2010 turns out to be the best year of your life, followed by many more. Thanks for all your visits and sweet comments; you are a dear friend…a treasure.

    Love & Hugs
    Duchess

  21. I miss you!!!! Thanks for sharing these “healthy” foods. Do you really like green tea??? I can not get used to it. I am a TAZO Wild Sweet Orange and Passion tea fanatic. They have discontinued both and replaced them with whole leaf green tea. YUCK!!!
    I got a Nikon for Christmas too. Maybe I’ll be able to get my act together and get back to blogging. I have been so busy that all I want to do is chill when I have some down time.
    Lulu is precious. We saw a 6 week old pug at North Park Mall (the MALL of Dallas) dressed in the most amazingly divine Santaish sweater last week. Sooo cute!!
    Your pictures are beautiful!!!!!!!
    xxx kim

  22. Talia says:

    Thank you, Bunny! I am going to give the vinegar/honey elixir a try. I apologize – I don’t have a blog. I do, however, follow and subscribe to yours!

    Thanks again!

  23. Bunny,
    your just gorgeous and funny.I love your LULU.I’m sure I would love your pit. LOL I can just see the handyman now. I alway have rotts so I know how people fear those types of dogs.I did a story on one of mine.
    Its hard for a woman my age and stature to keep the weight down.I will try.I want to do some walking, but Its just to cold for me. Boy …do those cupcakes look good. You take care bunny.
    XXOO Marie Antionette

  24. Hi Bunny!
    I wish I could go a day without drinking diet coke…my father has been nagging me to stop like foreverrr!
    Ginger is like gold! When I cook Chinese food…I have to add some ginger in almost everything, even so good with fish!
    Have a wonderful Sunday & hug Oliver for moi!
    xo*

  25. I don’t know how I missed this post, but I loved reading it! I eat Fage 0% with frozed blueberries for breakfast and snacks. I’m addicted to that stuff; thank God Costco is now carrying it because I was spending a fortune on it!

    YOU don’t need botox, you look great, by the way! I’ve been doing botox on my forehead for a number of years now, I can’t stand the lines. I think the spreadsheets and computer work have done it. I know that school played a part; all those cases, ugh! I’m trying to find ways to build collegen, my skin is very thin.

    Your pug is just adorable ;-) happy Wednesday to you!
