The American Museum of Natural History, NYC
This is one of our favorite all time museums. We go several times a year and are always on the lookout for the special exhibits.
(Listen-Up!! I hear a lot of croaking and some ribbits going on…)
One of our favorite exhibits is the; “FROGS, A CHORUS OF COLORS”
it is a lot of fun and kids love it. It is our third time going to this and as much as we love all the frogs ,the poison dart frogs, you will see below just fascinate us.
It will make you think twice before kissing any frogs ladies…
The dinosaur exhibit is always there as well as all the space and more popular permanent exhibits. We always wait for a special temporary exhibit to set up camp at this wonderful museum and then we are off to make a day of memories together. One of our favorites is the Frog exhibit, there are a variety of frogs and toads from all over but as I mentioned above these colorful Poisonous Deadly little guys are fascinating.
Before we get to the frogs and toads here ispicture of central park and the front of the museum. It was a gorgeous day in the city and we sat out front for over an hour just relaxing, talking and people watching before heading off. The energy and creativity of this city delights all of your senses
This little guy is delightful indeed.
We are getting there
I still find it hard to believe these little frogs are such deadly little monsters, but they are. And the terribillis is as it says above is probably the most poisonous animal on Earth. Fascinating.
terribillis, the terrible -as he is called
Size: Up to 2 inches
Size: Up to 2 inches
Range: Western Colombia
Habitat: On the ground in lowland
rain forest- often near rivers
The golden poison frog is found in moist tropical rain forests. They lay eggs on land, and when the tadpoles hatch, the male carries them on his back to a larger area of water where they will complete their metamorphosis.
Well well well what is he up to…. the sneaky little guy
I think I need to write another children’s book about them, it will be my third on frogs. My husband finds it tres bizarre that I have such an interest in frogs, as he thinks I’m such a “Girl”, whatever that means.
It is because my sons have an area outdoors with frogs and toads in it. It is like being in this magical little forest, when you get in there and watch them. Over the years I listened to my sons names for them and how they played and interacted with them and it just inspired me to write. One is being published now and my second was recently accepted by a publisher.
Make sure you listen to your children, you will find endless inspiration for story telling from them.
He is up to no good…I keep saying he, they just don’t strike me as females… Can you imagine being a frog, especially one feared by so many. Are you familiar with the poisonous arrows where they used the toxins on the tips of their arrows to kill their enemies. My good friend “Dorkalicious” as I refer to him on my blog was humoring my frog excitement yesterday with a lot of fun facts that he shared with me. We had a great Sunday filled with wonderful food, cocktails and conversation.
( Oh and he spent hours trying to retrieve a major business document I lost…I had been working on a project and it had a glitch and we lost everything. I am starting over from scratch. Thanks K for all your help!! I know you read my blog, but don’t comment on it
So it is off to the cafe for lots of fun foods to make three boys and their mom happy!!
The dinosaur shape chicken fingers are always a big hit both at the museum and at our home. Its so easy to cut out these fun shapes and make them for a quick dinner. Just add a healthy vegetable, perhaps a yogurt with some cut up fresh fruit and some homemade Jello Jigglers’ for dessert and you will have made a nutritious and fun meal for the family. I have two drawers in our old farmhouse kitchen filled with cookie cutters, some that were my great grandma’s. I love looking at them and having the boys pick out their favorite shapes.
Remember Ladies
Just be careful and only kiss the good sweet “frogs” you may encounter on journeys, you are way too special to waste your time on any Terribillis!!!!!!

It was a special day, one of our last before the boys started back to school. I wish I could slow time down and keep it like this forever. What will I do when my boys leave me one day????? (my other sons are there, but hiding as they are not always eager to be on moms blog. I guess its not “cool” when you are almost 13 and 16 LOL)

I was just pondering visiting the frogs the other day! Now I really have to go.
It looks such a fun trip. I love the red one with the black dots on. Although now I know that I should not have to kiss one
)
What a great time! And I gave up kissing frogs long ago. LOL.
Oh I do love that museum. I saw the pearl exhibit there and also the diamonds including a red diamond which I had never seen before. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Twirls
Oh Bunny, I love this post! Those little froggies are adorable, too bad they are such bad boys…. I do believe I must have kissed one of them when I married my ex-husband! (I THOUGHT he was a prince, non!)… Then Jack, my REAL Prince Charming came along… he must be one of the "good boy" frogs! Looks like your family always has such a wonderful time, I can't wait to read your posts and see what "we" are doing each day! Bisous… Julie Marie
Looks like a blast. NYC is so amazing. I'm dying to go back! We always love the poison dart frogs at the Dallas World Aquarium. So bright and innocent looking. Race saw a bright red bug yesterday and was convinced it was deadly because it was so brightly colored just like the dart frogs. we stayed away, just in case!
Have a great week.
