I Want to be Nancy Drew for a Day

July 21st, 2009

I was still a bit too young to be reading Nancy Drew, but I was dreaming about something exciting and fun. I think I was around 5 years old in this picture. I still want to wear pink sequins and glitter.

I am a huge fan of all things Nancy Drew. Just hearing her name takes me back to the small town I grew up in. The books gave me a glance into a world I was unfamiliar with. We didn’t travel the World, or have fancy dinners, a zippy roadster convertible or all the fabulous outfits she wears on her adventures. I had a great life…but reading Nancy Drew I became “curious” about all the ADVENTURE that was available to me outside of the small town I was living in. I found her to be strong, intelligent and certainly adventurous. My life now is so very very different from the way it was when I was a child. I now live much more like Nancy Drew than I did as a child dreaming of being her, but in my own grown-up and somewhat mischievous way. What do you think of Nancy, were you a fan???

Judge Sonia Sotomayor was a big fan of Nancy Drew, image taken from The New York Times Sunday Styles.

Ok..I said I wanted to be Nancy Drew for the day. So lets solve a mystery together shall we… Who in the World poured me this fabulous Strawberry Champagne cocktail and left this lovely champagne basket on my front porch. Surely it couldn’t be that gorgeous 18 year old farm boy that works down the road (sorry , I’ll focus) hmmmm.

Lets go into my secret garden…its so very quiet in here, where is everyone??

Well I think I will sit down and enjoy my cocktail and this lovely day.

I hear someones footsteps coming my way….Its my husband, the kids are hanging out watching a movie in the billiard room and WE are going to relax in the secret garden and plan a getaway to Saratoga Springs for a little detective work up there. I need to sneak a lot of wine into the park for my party I’m hosting this Saturday…so I need a plan. Shhhhh..don’t tell anyone. My husband is trying to tell me that Nancy didn’t commit crimes, she solved crimes. I also must pack a fabulous outfit. I never travel or investigate any situations in boring clothes!! ( ok, yes I do..but for the sake of the story lets pretend I’m always fabulously styled)

I like this little book…

How many of you out there read this?????

I love Nancy’s dress. The adorable cinched waist and the full skirt. So Darling. But I would rather wear the pink outfit next to her. My husband would just die..but he’ll just have to deal! (I have a similiar outfit I wore when I was a little girl in one of my dance recitals, if I can find it , I’ll scan it and put it on this post)

One MUST sport a lovely pair of ballet flats when sneaking around in London. Love all the color!!! I’m being very inspired

Nancy is always fashionable and she always saves the day.

Love this outfit and the fabulous colors. It might be a little too warm for me to wear all this wool for my summer party, plus the bagpipes will be so loud and draw way too much attention to the wine I am sneaking in. I’ll have to find something else to wear.

As being the child of a different language I am not familiar with Nancy, but you look very cute as a 5 year old. I think pink has always been the favorite color of 5 year old girls.

I have quite a few of the Nancy Drew books (close to the entire series). Recently my husband was taking my 14 yr old daughter to sell some of her books at the used bookstore by our house. I just happened to glance in her bag, and guess what she thought she was going to sell. Yep, all my Nancy Drews. We had quite a fight. I won. Hubby didn't get it, she was very mad, but I still have my books! So who left the goodies???

I too loved Nancy Drew books, wish I would have kept mine, seeing yours brought many fond memories. It also made me think of the Hardy Boys TV show and when I had a huge crush on Shaun Cassidy! Oh Brother!

You look so cute in the photo….I love the outfit…adorable. I read a few Nancy Drew's when I was younger, but I was more a fan of the Hardy Boys. But more than anything when I was even younger I adored The Famous Five, and I should be embarressed to admit this, but even now as an adult I still pull a Famous Five off the shelf occassionaly and read it again:)

I absolutely adored Nancy Drew books when I was younger. My Mom gave me her collection that she had from when she was little. Prized possessions!!

Hi!! I just love this post!!! I have my mom and auntie's collection of nancy drew books from the 30's when they were all blue with orange writings on the cover. I have the set set in little open suitcases and I get to set them on my dresser each day. I posted pick way back . Thanks for reminding me how much I treasure those books.
