The Party Is Over, here comes the rain

May 26th, 2009

No matter how much or how little space you have, add outdoor lighting, even a few candles will light up the night in a magical way

Our Allium which is in the onion family, is in bloom throughout all of our gardens, it is a hardy perennial and I highly recommend it to give height and punctuation ,kind of like an exclamation point to your garden!!

the sun is setting under our old Magnolia tree, it took quite a hit during a storm in October, but it is still hanging in there, giving us a great place to have lunch during a break from the days gardening. We have flats of impatients that are waiting to find a home in the soil under the tree. As the months progress the impatients will form a lovely circle at the base of the tree. The do well in the shade with a bit of sun.

I had just finished pruning my Lilac topiary ( it is still doing very well during the last week of May) One of my garden Bunnies sits under neath taking a little break from the hot sunshine or perhaps searching for some parsley in the nearby potager garden

A view of my favorite fountain, we have several and she is my favorite.

A lovely pink hydrangea on the table near our pool

a close up of the allium

At the end of our Peony and Hydrangea walk is a white iron bench and arbor with a pink Lilac that grows behind it. We have only had this garden area for two seasons so it has a ways to go.

My husband ran out to the store to pick something up and came back with these cheery pink petunias and placed them in the trelllis’s urn, now when it stops raining I will plant them in there.
I like the color red, but don’t have a lot of it in my garden. I just couldn’t resist these cheery little red flowers. They look happy outside even on a rainy day
Oh My, Is it May 26th or March 26th?? Well I guess we can’t complain, the holiday weekend was spectacular. Not a cloud in the sky and dry sunny weather. My kids swam for hours on end and my husband and I gardened, planted the pumpkin patch complete with rows and rows of sunflowers. I cooked and baked up a storm and then made after dinner cocktails from the fresh minted lemonade that I had prepared earlier in the day. I added some Limoncello liquor we had purchased on vacation on the Amalfi coast in Italy. It was a nice end to the weekend , we sat out on our wrap around porch and just relaxed and talked with friends. Now it is Tuesday and as the saying goes ” The Party Is Over”! It is in the 50′s, dreary, damp, bone chilling weather and if that weren’t bad enough my 3 sons all woke up with a cough and cold ,Yikes!!! What happened over night??? Only hours ago they jumping, diving and playing in the pool for hours and hours.

I was looking at the pictures I took over the weekend and the beautiful flowers in my garden sure did put a smile on my face and reminded me that YES it is MAY and this weather will pass. So now I am going to put on the tea kettle and make us all a nice pot of herbal tea with some honey, grab one of my sweet husbands comfy sweatshirts, grab some French magazines and start planning for good things to make, bake and create this weekend…. I hear its gonna be a good one!
