A Menu Perfect for Summer Time

May 28th, 2009

I like to mix my vinagrettes in my Grandmother’s old Ball Jars. Just put all ingrediants in the jar and shake shake shake away to a perfect salad dressing.

What evokes summer more than picnics, swimming and barbecues? I can’t think of much I would rather be doing than just being outdoors with my family. I love to sit out on our wrap around porch with a nice vodka tonic talking to a good friend as the sun is setting. Occassionally a neighbor drives by (we are not in a neighborhood ,but around here we call all the people we know and love “neighbors”) and gives a beep and a wave. Sometimes pulling over and joining us for a quick cocktail and chat. We are midway between Pennsylvania and Manhatten so I guess you can say I’m a Little bit Country and a Little bit City. We have the best of both worlds here. An evening in Manhatten at the ballet followed by sleeping at home here in the country, drifting off to sleep by the sweet melody of the insects who seem to be performing their very own symphony not too unlike that we heard only hours earlier at the ballet…. I’m going to kick off my Manolas this weekend and put on a cute pair of J Crew flats and just play with my family in the garden and around the house.

the most delicious pork tenderloin dish I have ever had, my dear Hubby grilled it a bit too long, but it was still so juicy and flavorful

A watermellon, feta cheese salad in a light refreshing vinagrette. One of my favorite summertime salads

corn on the cob, a Summer staple with my sons. I put out herbed butter that I make with the herbs I grow in my garden.

I love lobster dipped in melted butter. I think the color of the shells is so beautiful, they look good in a big bowl on the table. A perfect centerpiece.

A very informal buffet table out by the pool. We had a pretty table set on the wrap around porch.

Homemade Potato Salad served in a beautiful wicker basket fitted with a bowl

Toss your salad at the last minute if you don’t want it to get soggy. This salad holds up well to the dressing because the watermellon and feta soak in all the delicious flavors.

My New Mothers Day bowls. The colors are fantastically cheerful.
Think of easy delicious foods that you can add to your summer repertoire to make entertaining easy and enjoyable. You will have the best summer when it is surrounded by family, friends and food.
